When liberated from self-consciousness and artificial ideas about how a voice should sound, your true voice arises from the very core of your being with the potential to express all that you are and all that you may become.

The journey to your true voice begins with an awareness of your body's miraculous ability to breathe itself—the truest meaning of inspiration and the foundation of many spiritual practices. Grounded in presence and your essential nature, awakening your true voice will express your highest, creative Self in a way that is spontaneous, vital, and filled with joy.

In this workshop, we will integrate tools from the Alexander Technique and Carl Stough's Principles of Breathing Coordination to improve your psychophysical alignment (right posture) and help re-establish your natural, coordinated way of breathing. In each class we will explore the direct link between breathing, voice, and creative Self expression through poetry and song. Participants will be given a repertoire of exercises, written materials and videos to help them practice and continue opening to a more creative part of mind while strengthening their voice and breathing.

Whether your role is artist, counselor, minister, leader, activist, parent, or simply a friend, your voice can powerfully serve to comfort, companion, encourage, inspire, educate, and unite.  Discovering and freeing this valuable resource will amplify your ability to connect with others, express yourself, and take action.

This workshop is open to everyone; no prior experience is necessary.

Through this practice, participants will:

  • Uncover a voice that is spontaneous and free, open and expressive

  • Discover how to enter into a receptive and allowing state of mind and body to permit insight and creative impulses to arise

  • Strengthen breathing, body and voice through the integration of the Alexander Technique and Carl Stough's Principles of Breathing Coordination

  • Learn lasting ways to relieve vocal and physical tension and increase ease and vitality in their body

  • Explore the connection between breathing, voice and artistic Self expression

Testimonial

“I wonder if I have ever shared this exactly - but I have always felt our work, working with you and the alexander technique was truly the missing link for me. It shifted everything -  my voice emerged in ways I could not have imagined - thanks to your patience and skilled teaching -- beyond that, what emerged was this experience of a flow of creativity coming up and out through me but not by me. It is pure joy and as profound as any spiritual or meditation practice I have pursued.”

-Susan L, Student of Awakening Your True Voice
